Interview Guarantee Scheme

Having such a scheme for disabled candidates is part of our commitment to disability and forms the "Two Ticks Symbol" awarded by the Department for Work and Pensions in recognition of this commitment. It is acknowledged that disabled people do face difficulties when seeking employment and this scheme is a way of not only assisting disabled people, but hopefully also helping to break down the stereotypes some people may have about disabled people.

Therefore if a disabled applicant meets the minimum essential criteria in the person specification, we will guarantee them an interview. It should be stressed that selection is based on merit and a demonstration by applicants of meeting the criteria.

Under the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act 1995) there is a duty for us to take any appropriate steps to make any reasonable adjustments - that is to reduce or remove any substantial disadvantage for a disabled job applicant compared to a non-disabled job applicant i.e.

  • adapting facilities, such as IT facilities
  • providing additional services, such as a sign language interpreter or learning materials in alternative formats
  • altering the physical environment to make it more accessible
