Policy on the Employment of Disabled People

We seek to create equality of opportunity for disabled people in our role as a major employer in both the way we recruit staff and in our employment practices. We positively encourage disabled people to apply for suitable vacant posts, and operate an interview guarantee scheme for disabled candidates who meet the minimum essential criteria. Reasonable adjustments to the job and/or workplace will be made where appropriate to do so.

Family-Friendly policies

City West supports the principle that staff should enjoy a work-life balance and acknowledges that all stages of their career work best when they are able to achieve an appropriate balance work and all other aspects of their lives. We have a range of employment and retention policies and procedures that support current and potential staff in their job role such as: Carers Leave, Parental Leave, Time off for Dependants, Job share, Voluntary Reduced Working Hours or Flexible Working (where appropriate) and flexible retirement.

Dignity at Work

Everyone has the right to dignity at work, and at City West we take the matter very seriously. We are aware of the detrimental and negative effect this can have on individuals and therefore operational efficiency. Our policy challenges both harassment and bullying wherever it occurs in order to create a safe working environment.

Trade Unions

We have a positive and constructive relationship with our Trade Unions and encourage membership.

EQUALITY & DIVERSITY

We welcome applications from all people, regardless of gender, gender identity, age, ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or any other individual characteristic which may unfairly affect a person’s opportunities in life.

City West recognise that we have the power to reduce the inequities that people experience by ensuring our services are responsive and accessible to all. Person specifications and job descriptions will be objective, based solely on skills, relevant experience and capacity to do the job. Selection will be made on the basis of ability and individual merit as measured against the criteria for the job. Qualifications, experience and skills will be assessed at the level that is relevant to the job.

We also recognise that our ability to meet these diverse needs is improved by having a diverse workforce that reflects the community it serves and which has the skills and understanding to achieve our objectives. Where there are groups that are under- represented in the organisation, adverts may state that we encourage applications from those groups and City West may offer training and encouragement to any under-represented groups e.g. management development training for women where they are under-represented in management grades.

Any candidate with a disability who meets the essential requirements of the job as set out in the job description and person specification will be guaranteed an interview. Reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process and to the job and/or workplace will be made where appropriate.

Monitoring statistics will be maintained at all stages of the recruitment and selection process from application to appointment, to ensure that the Equality and Diversity Policy is being adhered to and is working and to assist in identifying areas for improvement. Therefore it is really useful if candidates complete the Recruitment and Personal Information Monitoring Form that accompanies the application form.

Our overall strategy for equality and diversity is to ensure that our Equality and Diversity Policy is applied fairly, fully and consistently throughout City West, as an integral part of staffing and business planning and process and the service we provide. We aim to mainstream all equality and diversity issues, which will contribute to a change in organisational culture and performance generally in line with our vision and objectives. If you require a copy of our Equalities and Diversity Policy, please contact any member of the Human Resources team on 0161 605 7582.
